Who We Are

The editors of Riptide, Ginny Baily and Sally Flint, met while doing the Creative Writing MA at the University of Exeter and are now both PhD students. Both have won awards for their writing.

Ginny (left) is completing a short story collection looking at the theme of old age and individual stories have appeared in various journals. She is exploring the range of ways disparate short stories can be linked into a unified whole. She is also assistant editor of the Africa Research Bulletin.

Sally (right) is currently working on a collection of poetry and short stories (see Succour issues 3, 4 and 5 for recent poetry). She runs the Creative Writing Research Group at the University of Exeter and teaches on the undergraduate programme. She is also a facilitator for 'Changing Lives Through Literature'.

Editorial Board

JANE FEAVER worked for Faber and Faber as assistant poetry editor before moving to Devon. Her first novel ‘According to Ruth’ was published by Harvill Secker in 2007.

PHILIP HENSHER is a novelist, critic and columnist for the Independent. His most recent novels ‘The Fit’ and ‘The Mulberry Empire’ are available from Harper Perennial. His latest novel ‘The Northern Clemency’ will be published by Fourth Estate in May 2008.

LUKE KENNARD is a poet, dramatist and writer of fiction. He won an Eric Gregory Award in 2005. His collection of poems ‘The Harbour Beyond the Movie’ was short-listed for the Forward Prize in 2007.

JAMES LONG has written eleven novels under three names. In 2007, Faber published his first work of non-fiction 'The Plot Against Pepys', co-written with his oldest son, Ben. His most recent novels (as 'Will Davenport') are 'The Painter' and 'The Perfect Sinner.' In April 2008, Little Brown will republish his earlier novel 'Ferney', a love-story spanning 1,300 years of history in the Somerset countryside, with its sequel following in 2009.He lives in Totnes with his wife Annie.
